IT Manager (Defence)
An opportunity has arisen within the Defence Branch of the Australian High Commission, London. We are seeking an IT Manager.
It is a condition of this appointment that any candidates applying for this position must be able to obtain Australian National Security Clearance to Top Secret Level and must be an Australian citizen. Under Australian law, persons with dual Australian/ British citizenship cannot obtain such security clearance.
The primary objective of this role will be to take responsibility, in collaboration with Chief of Staff and Defence Information Systems Division, for the operation of the Defence Restricted and Secret Networks in London.
The duties of this position will include:
1.Manage the day-to-day operation of the Defence Restricted Network, PCs and ancillary equipment in accordance with Defence Policies.
2.Manage the day-to-day operation of the Defence Secret Network, PCs and ancillary equipment in accordance with Defence Policies
3.Manage the operation of all Wide Area Network communication links servicing Defence Networks.
4.Provide recommendations on the strategy for the effective and efficient operation of the London Defence Restricted Network, including the planning and arranging procurement of new equipment when necessary.
5.Collaborate with Chief of Staff in the development of various Information Systems related projects and assist with the Department's budget projections for each upcoming financial year.
6.Stay abreast of developments within the IT industry and maintain currency with emerging technologies in relation to network technology and PC architecture, making recommendations based on knowledge gained and relative to Defence work practices.
7.Other duties as directed.

Selection Criteria
1. Qualifications
2.Formal manufacturers' technical support qualifications (Novell, MCSE, etc). Preferably formal IT training and qualifications, ideally degree or similar.
Experience
3.Previous responsibility for network administration, or network administration experience and formal IT qualifications. Experience in administration of secure networks desirable.
4.In depth knowledge of CURRENT networking hardware and operating systems in a mixed networked environment; good knowledge of Wide Area Network systems, IP protocol and secure networks. In depth knowledge of CURRENT PC and related hardware and maintenance.
Other Skills
5.Ability to quickly learn and adopt new techniques and procedures.
6.Good at coping under pressure, often with demanding staff.
7.Good interpersonal skills.
8.Dedicated, professional attitude.
