History and Politics Teacher
Menorah Grammar is an all boys' independent Jewish Orthodox School. It is committed to the highest educational standards and the maintenance of a broad and balanced curriculum for all its pupils. Academic achievement is high. Teaching staff, both secular and religious, work in tandem to achieve a harmonious atmosphere in the School.
Ofsted in 2004 have described the school as "A safe, academic environment, it successfully weds together religious and secular education".
Menorah Grammar school are searching for a teacher of History and Politics to start at the beginning of the summer term or September 2008.
The successful candidate will be energetic, innovative and enthusiastic and will want to continue the tradition of this School as a warm and welcoming environment.
You must have high standards for pupils and experience of working in a high achieving school is desirable but not necessary. You will also need to be happy to work in a religious school and be hardworking and motivated, ensuring that the pupils you teach are taught lessons of a high standard.

This successful school only has 170 students, which enables you to teach small class sizes of highly motivated and focused pupils. The working week is also slightly different from a standard school as all the Jewish holidays are adhered to which often means that you will have extra holidays outside of the standard school holiday allocation.
Job Purpose To work closely with senior management to act under their guidance and also to initiate curriculum development across the school.

Leadership
To:
· Create a vision and a sense of purpose and pride in teaching & learning;
· Inspire members of History & Politics Department by personal example and presence;
· Take responsibility for raising pupil achievement in History & Politics;
· Be a lead practitioner in all aspects of teaching and learning;
· Co-ordinate the introduction and development of whole school policies relevant to History& Politics teaching;
· Identify and applaud areas of success in History & Politics;
· Have a presence around the school, encouraging students to demonstrate positive behaviour and attitudes, both in lessons and during movements to and from lessons;
· Promote positive behaviour and maintain discipline in the department including supporting staff;
· Keep abreast of local and national changes relating to History & Politics.
Management
Staff:
· Lead and support all History Department staff, addressing CPD needs in their work to ensure inspirational delivery of 11-19 History & Politics.
Curriculum:
· Ensure that the statutory requirements of History are fulfilled in relation to both content and assessment;
· Assume responsibility for students' data and promote its use to inform lesson planning and teaching styles;
· Monitor and evaluate tracking systems and the use of data within the department for highlighting success and spotting underachievement;
· Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of schemes of work;
· Ensure all aspects of cross-curricular initiatives are embedded in 14-19 History & Politics e.g. ICT, literacy, numeracy, internationalism and citizenship;
· Promote opportunities for extra-curricular activities and visits related to the 14-19 History programme of study.
Students:
· Ensure high standards of performance across the ability range at 14-19 History;
· Oversee and monitor faculty use of rewards in History.
Teaching:
All teachers are expected to abide by the Professional Standards for Qualified Teacher Status when undertaking their role as a classroom teacher.
Person Specification
Education
Candidates should have:
· An honours degree
· Qualified teacher status
Experience
Candidates should have:
· Experience of teaching across the full ability range at KS3, KS4 and KS5;
· Experience of teaching at A level.
